Plant design and construction

Biodiesel Plants designed by Grown Fuel are offered. The minimum quantity of fat or oil you will need to access to viably run a biodiesel business in most countries is 20 000 litres per week. The maximum quantity of biodiesel that can be produced depends on the size of the plant you build; the only limit to capacity is the availability of feedstocks.

Grown Fuel offers a tailor-made biodiesel production plant service. Previous work has involved design of biodiesel plants to the customer’s needs including:

  • 200 litre Used Cooking Oil batch plants
  • 500 litre per hour pilot tallow plant
  • 1000 litres biodiesel produced per day
  • 2500 litres tallow per hour
  • 3000 litres Used Cooking Oil per 1.5 hour batch
  • <50 ton tallow per week
  • 1000 ton tallow per week (1.1 million litres biodiesel per week)
  • 30 000 litre per week
  • 15 000 000 litre per year plant and premises

Plants are typically of modular design for ease of transport and instelation. Capacity can be increased at a later date to allow for expanded production and or take advantage of more efficient technologies/recipes as they become commercially available in the future.

Feasibility assessment

A feasibility assessment may include: Plant design, funding options/grants, business plans, liaison and lobby work, site assessment, proposal development, risk assessment, costing all areas of proposals, management briefings, operability concerns etc.

Grown Fuel has experience covering every issue relating to starting a biodiesel business, see about GF.

Consultancy Charges

Grown Fuel rates are negotiated for each job, taking into consideration the quantity and type of work. As a guide, rates are based on $150 per hour or part thereof.

All work engaged by Grown Fuel requires a down payment to commence work, also staged payments, either as a weekly bill, or as agreed milestones are met. Part payment as equity in the plant is acceptable, meaning I make money when you make money, so you know the best biodiesel skills are a part of your business.

What do you need to start a biodiesel business?

  • Capital.
  • Feedstock: Used Cooking Oil, New oil or Tallow.
  • A diesel fuel market or use.
  • A premises with truck access.

Commercial biodiesel plants start at a minimum of 20 000 litres per week to be economic, there is no maximum.

Plants need case by case assessment, taking into account your situation regarding: available equipment and premises, local fossil diesel price, availability of feedstock’s etc. With the fossil price as it is, a way can nearly always be found to make a project viable. It just takes work to find the synergies.

Grown Fuel will not be involved in building / design plants that make a poor quality fuel as a way of reducing operating costs.

To produce a saleable commodity profitably you need economies of scale!
