Background
Grown Fuel has formed over the last decade through Paul Martin’s involvement in the formation of the biodiesel industry in Australia. Paul is a founding member of the Australian Biodiesel Consultancy (ABC) and the Biodiesel Association of Australia (BAA). Paul resigned as a director of the ABC in May 2002 and has since been able to concentrate on building on Grown Fuel biodiesel consultancy and other personal and business ambitions.
Grown Fuel was the first independent biodiesel consultancy in Australia With experience in every aspect of the biodiesel industry, it is the most qualified biodiesel consultancy available.
Trials and fleet conversions
In 2000 Paul was responsible for customer liaison and sales of biodiesel produced from the ABC biodiesel plant based at Wyong NSW. This required extensive product knowledge for the successful conversion of individual vehicles and fleets to the use of biodiesel. This work demanded a substantial amount of time being spent advising fleet operators, service station personnel and individuals of all concerns regarding biodiesel.
Research and Development
Grown Fuel now offers its own biodiesel process technology. This has become possible through years of biodiesel manufacture, plant design, building and troubleshooting commercial and small scale operations. See Services for details.
Originally Paul was an intricate part of the design, construction and operation of the pilot biodiesel plant operating at Wyong in NSW, a joint project between ABC and Collex. The plant produced high quality biodiesel and the company opened the first dedicated biodiesel bowser in Australia. The success of the pilot plant has lead to the full-scale expansion of ABG into a public company.
Paul has also spent considerable time operating biodiesel plants.
Marketing
Paul has an unrivalled past in the promotion and demonstration of biodiesel in Australia. Paul promoted biodiesel through all available mediums, from TV, radio and print media across the country, to talks and demonstrations to government, industry, students, at events, field days, TAFE and to community groups.
Troubleshooting
Paul has worked with 7 out of the 10 leading biodiesel companies in Australia and New Zealand, commonly consulting on operational and product quality issues.
Paul has and continues to assist numerous people and businesses with troubleshooting of manufacturing to operability problems and concerns at all hours of the day and night.
Feasibility studies
Grown Fuel has completed comprehensive written feasibility studies for many businesses large and small. Studies typically include on the ground and desk top assessments and recommendations of premises, plant and equipment for the manufacture and use of biodiesel, world wide research of biodiesel plants and practices, local implications regarding manufacture and use. Comprehensive costing, mediation with sensitive staff, presentations to interested local companies, crop selection, business plans and advice.
Lobbying
Paul has made many trips to the ACT and Maquarie and Spring St for industry, personal use biodiesel production and personal interest, to achieve government backing for biodiesel. This lobbying and liaison with interested parties was a major contributor to the $50 million bounty for biofuels producers. Also biodiesels inclusion in CSIRO / AGO emission studies, and the acceptance of biodiesel as a legitimate fuel including setting the Australian biodiesel standard by Environment Australia, to name direct outcomes. A number of Industry and government working groups to get the industry moving were also formed due to Paul’s work.
Training
Paul is constantly involved in training staff and individuals on the production and use of biodiesel, as well as providing information for fleet managers and individuals who are and are intending to use biodiesel.
